Year in prison and hefty fine for man who traveled with false PCR test | Abroad

On May 7, the man had reported to the airport with the results of a PCR test that had to show that he had tested negative for the corona virus. Inquiries with the lab that supposedly took the test learned that no test with those reference numbers had been taken, nor did the name of the man involved appear in their records. The traveler then confessed that he had bought the forged proof for 30 euros.

The public prosecutor offered the man a settlement of 750 euros, but he did not accept it. The man subsequently did not appear in court, after which he was sentenced in absentia on Monday to a prison term of 1 year and a fine of 4,000 euros.

“These are very serious facts,” the court said in its verdict. “International air traffic is the pre-eminent way in which a pandemic spreads globally. The person concerned has shown an antisocial and dangerous attitude. Not only does she show a complete lack of respect for the caregivers, she also endangers the health and safety of his fellow travelers.”
