Yasonna Laoly Denies False Reports about Ferdy Sambo’s Detention at Salemba Penitentiary

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna Laoly denied reports that said that the convict in the premeditated murder case of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, Ferdy Sambo, had never slept in a cell at the Salemba Penitentiary (Lapas).

According to Yasonna, advocate Alvin Lim who revealed the news to the public never met Ferdy Sambo while he was in prison.

“The crazy person (who revealed it), the person (Alvin Lim) was not there (when Ferdy Sambo was in prison). He (Alvin Lim) was sick in hospital,” said Yasonna at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday (5 /1/2024).

“Sambo was only in Salemba for five days, then he was sent to Cibinong, (Alvin Lim) just said that,” he said again.

Therefore, Yasonna confirmed that the information Alvin Lim mentioned about Ferdy Sambo was not true.

This is because Alvin Lim, who was previously detained at Salemba Prison, was ill from 16-29 August 2023. During his illness, Alvin was treated in hospital.

Meanwhile, Ferdy Sambo is in Salemba Prison on 24-29 August 2023.

According to Yasonna, even though they had both been detained in the same prison, Alvin Lim and Ferdy Sambo had never met.

“That’s not true. The news has already been made, he was sick from 16-29 August in the hospital. Sambo was only there 24-29 (August), when will you meet him?” said Yasonna.

“(After that, Sambo) we immediately transferred him to Cibinong (Prison). He is Cibinong Prison,” he said again.

Yasonna reiterated that the news that Ferdy Sambo had never been detained in a prison cell was a hoax.

Since the beginning until now, Sambo has remained in a detention cell.

“It’s a hoax, yes (still in the cell),” said Yasonna.

When asked further whether Ferdy Sambo received special treatment, Yasonna emphasized that there was none.

“No, that’s why he’s in Cibinong Prison,” he said.

Previously, the figure of advocate Alvin Lim was in the spotlight because he said that Ferdy Sambo had never slept in a Salemba prison cell.

Alvin Lim revealed that the former Head of the National Police Propam Division slept in a refrigerated or AC room.

He revealed this after he was released from Salemba Prison for a case of document forgery.

Ferdy Sambo’s statement about not sleeping in prison was revealed by Alvin Lim in the Doctor Richard Lee podcast which aired on Wednesday, January 3 2024.

“I’ll tell you something interesting, sir, Sambo said he was in Salemba prison, right, he was never detained in Salemba prison. “The name is just there,” said Alvin in the Doctor Richard Lee podcast which was broadcast on YouTube on Wednesday, as reported by Tribunnews.com.

“Sambo has never slept in prison, in the KPLP (Penitentiary Security Unit) office above, the building has air conditioning. “The name is just there,” he said again.
