Yasmín Talbot was accused of smuggling weapons and having a secret relationship with an inmate while working as a nursing manager at the Nassau County Correctional Facility in Long Island (NY).
Talbot, 48, appeared in court Thursday, when she was charged with promoting smuggling and conspiracy at the prison where she held the second-highest position. It is alleged that she maintained a secret relationship with Christopher Wright, 37 years oldwith a plan to get him a ceramic knife while he was held in the facility.
She was suspended in August during the investigation and resigned in September. She began working at a nursing home in Hempstead before being arrested on Wednesday, he said ABC News.

“Our investigation began when we realized that she “I was abusing the power I had.”said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly. “She is a public official in power and using that pose to endanger others, her own staff, jail staff and other inmates is unfathomable.”
Authorities say Talbot had numerous inappropriate and unauthorized conversations with the inmate over hundreds of calls, in which they discussed bringing contraband into the jail and funding Wright’s police station account under an assumed name. He also allegedly gave Wright inmates’ housing locations and brought him a ceramic knife to the prison.
The deadly weapon was found a month later during a body scan on Wright. Investigators say that without your cooperation They reviewed their previously recorded phone calls. That’s when they discovered Talbot was involved.
“It betrayed the public trust, it circumvented our measures to stop the entry of contraband, it’s a very sharp knife that could have caused a lot of damage,” said Lt. Mark Curatolo of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department.
His attorney spoke briefly outside court. “Ms. Talbot vehemently denies the allegations made against her in this indictment,” said defense attorney Anthony Grandinette.
Talbot was indicted on grand jury indictment charges of promoting prison contraband, offering a false instrument for presentation, falsifying business records, official misconduct and conspiracy. She pleaded “not guilty.”
He is due back in court on January 9. Face a maximum from 2-1/3 to 7 years in prison. In a pending aggravated driving while intoxicated (DWI) case with a child, Talbot was remanded in custody.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
