Yann Sommer and Inter Milan beat Lecce 2-0 on Saturday at home.
Inter Milan won 2-0 at home against Lecce (12th) and remained four points ahead of Juventus Turin (2nd) at the top of the Italian Championship, Saturday during the 17th day.
For Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, this is the 12th shutout of the 2023-2024 Serie A season in 17 matches. This exceptional ratio currently makes him the best goalkeeper in Italy.
At the start of the afternoon Juventus put pressure on Inter by winning 2-1 at Frosinone (14th). The two leading teams have only lost once this season in the league.
AC Milan, hanging on the field of Salernitana (2-2) on Friday, remains third with two lengths ahead of Bologna (4th) but eleven behind Inter.
Bissek opens the mark
Inter opened the scoring with their young German defender Yann Bissek (43rd), from the back of the head when receiving a free kick taken by the Turk Hakan Calhanoglu.
In the 78th minute, Nicolo Barella increased the score from close range, after a superb backheel from the Austrian Marko Arnautovic.
Lecce finished the match with ten men after the exclusion of Zambian striker Lameck Banda for a too virulent refereeing dispute (83rd).
Good reaction after elimination in the Cup
Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, eliminated last Wednesday by Bologna (2-1 after extra time) in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup of which it was double title holder, played without its striker Lautaro Martinez nor its defender Federico Dimarco, all two injured in one thigh.
On the next day, Inter will play Genoa (13th) on Friday December 29 and Juventus will host Roma the next day.
