On Saturday, January 9, it was announced that Kyle Schwarber signed contract with Nationals Washington as part of a trade with the Chicago Cubs, heading into the 2021 MLB Season. Later, Schwarber stated that before coming to his new team, the New York Yankees showed interest in him and in his services, but, evidently, he did not reach more.
Kyle Schwarber came to the Washington Nationals with a $ 10 million, one-year contract. But before this happened, the Yankees were one of the teams he would potentially sign with next season.
“I think there was some interest, there was some talk there before; just checking and seeing where it was. But nothing paid off from there,” Schwarber told Peter Botte of the New York Post.
Weeks ago the New York organization was rumored to add the mighty southpaw to its line up, but even Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said last December that was unlikely to happen due to lack of space for a designated hitter.
Kyle Schwarber, 27, had a 2020 MLB Season with the Chicago Cubs. He hit just .188 in 59 games. Despite hitting 11 home runs, his OPS was .701, the worst of his five major league seasons with at least three games played.
