New York.─ The New York Yankees made a qualifying offer to Dominican outfielder Juan Soto on Monday, a routine transaction that would leave the organization with compensation if the outfielder chooses another destination in free agency.
For 2025, the guaranteed offer is US$21.5 million – which is calculated based on the average of the top 100 Premier League contracts.
Soto is coming off of earning US$31 million in his last rookie season, before testing the open market, where he is rumored to receive a contract that is between US$500 and US$700 million, according to several game analysts.
At just 26 years old, Soto just recorded the best offensive season of his career, in which he hit .288, with 41 home runs and 109 RBI.
What is a qualified offer?
This type of offer is a facility that Premier League teams have to offer an amount that is the result of the average value of 100 offers to free agents currently on the market.
If the player accepts, he stays with the team for one more season.
Since the establishment of that offer system in 2012, (and counting the events until 2023), only 13 of 124 players have accepted the offer of qualification.
