New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe’s season has been pretty inconsistentwith great moments at the beginning of 2024 but a key offensive drop between July and August, which has sparked rumors that the Mules’ general manager, Brian Cashman, took it upon himself to deny on Tuesday.
With the idea of improving their performance Some sources have theorized that the Yankees could send Volpe to the Minor Leagues, but this was immediately dismissed by Cashman. who believes there is no way to develop his game other than in the Major Leagues.
“We haven’t talked about it,” Cashman told Joel Sherman (New York Post). “I feel like, by far, we believe in him and, yes, his development continues at the major league level. Obviously there are difficulties when someone’s opportunity is taken away early on, which he earned (in 2023) but he’s still finding his way.“.
Although Volpe had a .186 average in August, in May he also had a great offense of .293 with a significant streak of games with at least one hit, which confirmed the Yankees’ confidence in the young infielder.
“He is also by far our best player at that position (shortstop), and arguably our best player in our infield.“, he added.
Cashman’s comments were also echoed by Yankees manager Aaron Boone.which indicated that Volpe is the best at his position in the entire American League and proof of this was the Gold Glove he won in 2023.
“He’s the best shortstop in the league. All in all, he’s a winning player,” Boone said on Talkin’ Yanks.
Volpe is currently hitting .247 with 11 homers, 20 RBIs and 23 doubles in 124 games.
