Los Yankees They called Jason Dominguez as their 27th player for Sunday’s game against the Tigers in Williamsport, Pa., and immediately inserted him into the starting lineup as their left fielder and fifth hitter.
No. 1 prospect returns to Yankees
The 27th player rule is typically used during doubleheaders, but the Yankees and Tigers were able to add one more player to their respective rosters for the Little League Classic. It’s hard to imagine the Yankees could have made a more exciting selection.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees appointed OF Jasson Domínguez (#89) as their “27th Man.”

Dominguez, 21, has not appeared in the Major Leagues since Sept. 9, 2023 after undergoing a Tommy John surgery due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament and then suffering a left oblique strain in June with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 17 overall prospect, Dominguez has been viewed as a top prospect for years. The Yankees signed Dominguez to a $5.1 million contract in 2019, when he was ranked as the top player in that year’s international signing class.
Nicknamed “The Martian,” Dominguez made it to the Major Leagues at age 20 when he was promoted on Sept. 1, 2023. Dominguez wasted no time backing up his fame when he hit a home run on his first MLB swing off the Astros’ Justin Verlander at Minute Maid Park.
In his first eight games, Dominguez slugged .677 and hit four home runs, raising hopes that he would be an immediate fixture in New York’s lineup.

But Dominguez began to feel discomfort in his right elbow during his third game, which ultimately turned out to be a torn ulnar collateral ligament that required surgery. He was originally expected to miss nine to 10 months, but Dominguez saw his timetable pushed back because of his oblique injury.
Unfortunately for Yankees fans, Jasson Dominguez won’t be making the MLB roster for long. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch that the super prospect will return to the minor leagues after Sunday’s game.
