Yankees beat Dodgers and stay alive in the World Series

With a Grand Slam by Anthony Volpe, the New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 this Tuesday and avoided a sweep in the World Series.

The Dodgers continue to dominate the Major League finals by an aggregate 3-1 and will have another chance to lift the trophy in Game 5 on Wednesday, again in New York.

Despite having all the odds against them, the Yankees dream of being the first to come back from 3-0 in a championship saga. This time they regained confidence in their hitting with Volpe’s four-run homer and another three-run homer by Venezuelan Gleyber Torres.

The ‘Bronx Bombers’ built an initial two-run lead for the visitors, achieved with a historic home run by Freddie Freeman, and then held off a Dodgers hampered by the physical problems of their Japanese star Shohei Ohtani.

With this two-run homer, Freeman chained home runs in each of the first four games of this World Series, including a Grand Slam that gave the Dodgers the victory in the tenth inning of the opening game.

The Californian also became the first player to homer in six straight World Series games, as he also did so in the last two episodes of the 2021 ‘Fall Classic’ that he won with the Atlanta Braves.

Freeman’s hit also drove in Mookie Betts’ career and spread fear among the 49,354 fans at Yankee Stadium, who saw no reaction from their stars.

With no news from the American Aaron Judge and the Dominican Juan Soto, it was Anthony Volpe who revived his hometown team.

The American first reduced the deficit with a score in the second inning and in the next he signed the huge Grand Slam that also brought in the careers of Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr and Giancarlo Santon.

Volpe’s bombshell was the sixth Grand Slam in these playoffs, another record in the history of ‘The Majors’.

Explosive eighth inning

The Yankees thus took the lead for the first time since the opening game, but the Dodgers continued fighting to win their first title since 2020, and eighth in their history.

The home lead was reduced from three to one run in the fifth inning, when Will Smith hit a home run and Tommy Edman scored after another hit by Freeman.

A big favorite for the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award, the veteran Freeman forgot about the sprained ankle he has been carrying in these playoffs to sprint to first base and continue putting pressure on the home team.

The Yankees escaped harassment with a solo home run by young Austin Wells in the sixth inning.

In the next, the Dodgers had a great chance to react when Edman took second base with Ohtani at bat but reliever Mark Leiter Jr. struck out the Japanese phenomenon.

Ohtani was off again this Tuesday, limited by the partial dislocation of his left shoulder suffered in the second game.

The Yankees sealed the victory in an explosive five-run eighth inning, which gave them confidence for the almost impossible mission of a comeback.

First it was Verdugo who sent Volpe to the plate and then Venezuelan Gleyber Torres made the stands explode with joy with a three-run home run.

Even Aaron Judge, a big disappointment so far in the final, joined the bombardment, breaking his drought by hitting a single that drove in Juan Soto’s eleventh run in the rain.
