Judge, 32, had just his third hit of the postseason and first home run after setting the second personal best of his career with 58 home runs during the regular season.
Venezuelan Gleyber Torres, who is going through a completely different moment than Judge, batting .304 in the postseason, had three hits while Dominican Juan Soto contributed one hit in three opportunities at bat. Mexican Álex Verdugo had a hit.
Tanner Bibee was the starter for the Guardians, pitching 1.1 innings in which he allowed five hits and three runs, two of his own.
The star Gerrit Cole (1-0) remains undefeated after three outings in the 2024 postseason with the Yankees, he pitched 4.1 innings in which he allowed two runs, he did not figure in the final decision since the victory went to Clay Holmes (2 -0), who barely recorded two outs.
Dominican José Ramírez hit his second home run of the postseason in the top of the ninth inning but it was not enough to avoid defeat.
Both teams will have Wednesday off to travel to Cleveland, Ohio, where the Guardians will have three consecutive games (if necessary) at Progressive Field.
They will be home for the first time in the American League Championship Series since the 2016 season when they managed to win 4-1 over the A’s
