New York. Juan Soto hit a game-ending single leading off the 10th inning as the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1 and Aaron Judge’s homerless streak extended to a career-high 16 games.
With pinch-hitter Jon Berti on second as the automatic runner, Soto singled off Josh Winckowski (4-2) just past shortstop Trevor Story, who tried to make a backhanded catch.
Center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela’s leaping throw went down the third-base line and Berti slid headfirst into catcher Connor Wong’s attempt to tag him to give the Yankees back-to-back wins for the first time since May 8-9, 2021, against Washington.
Judge, who leads the major leagues with 51 homers and 126 RBIs, went 1 for 4 with a fly-less single.
Clay Holmes walked onto the mound at Yankee Stadium to boos in the 10th inning. Six pitches later, fans cheered as he returned to the dugout.
Holmes (5-3), a two-time All-Star, has drawn fan ire by blowing 12 saves in 41 opportunities.
Brandon Lowe homered, Tampa Bay’s bullpen limited AL Central-leading Cleveland to one hit in seven scoreless innings and the Rays snapped a three-game losing streak on a tough road trip with a 5-2 victory.
Otros resultados: Milwaukee 3-0 San Francisco; Florida 6-3 Washington; Houston 6-3 Oakland; Colorado 4-2 Detroit; Arizona 6-1 Cincinnati; Texas 5-4 Seattle.
