Official Release: Earlier today, the Yankees claimed OF Duke Ellis off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-handed pitcher Ian Hamilton to the 60-day injured list.
Duke Ellis made his MLB debut in 2024 when the Chicago White Sox gave him the opportunity to do so, he only saw 4 at-bats and did not hit a single. He is a 26-year-old center fielder who was selected in the 2017 Draft by the San Diego Padres. However, in 2020, Chicago took him as a free agent, then he was placed on assignment to be taken by the Mets and then the same situation with the Seattle Mariners.
Ian Hamilton is currently being active in Double-A for an upcoming return to the Yankees bullpen. The latest update on his possible return is in September. For the moment, he is transferred to the 60-day injured list.
