NEW YORK (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run homer after Aaron Judge was intentionally walked in the fifth inning, Juan Soto homered twice, Judge added his major league-leading 42nd homer and the New York Yankees held on for an 8-7 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.
Judge reached base four times, marking the 41st time this season that he has reached base at least three times. He singled twice and homered.
Seeing action in his ninth game after missing 28 with a hamstring injury, Stanton matched a season-high with four RBIs and homered in consecutive games for the first time since June 11-12 at Kansas City to reach 20 homers for the 13th time in his first 15 seasons.
Soto hit a solo shot off Texas starter Andrew Heaney (1-2) in the third inning and then in the seventh off Andrew Chafin. He reached 30 homers for the third time in his career and the 22nd game he has hit multiple homers in his career.
Marcus Stroman (8-6) started on eight days’ rest and allowed one run and four hits in five innings. Clay Holmes gave up a run-scoring single to Adolis Garcia but was able to earn his 25th save in 35 chances.
For the Yankees, Dominican Juan Soto went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Venezuelan Gleyber Torres went 1-for-3 with one run scored. Mexican-American Alex Verdugo went 1-for-5 with one run scored.
For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis Garcia was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Dominican Leody Taveras was 0-for-4 with one run scored.
