NEW YORK (AP) — DJ LeMahieu hit the go-ahead single through a five-man infield in the 10th inning to give the New York Yankees a rain-delayed 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
Juan Soto homered to tie the score in the seventh and Gleyber Torres had two hits for the Yankees, who won for the seventh time in eight games. New York remained tied atop the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles, who beat the Cleveland Guardians 9-5.
Aaron Judge was intentionally walked three times by the last-place Blue Jays, who gave him a free pass with the bases empty in the second inning Saturday.
The last Yankees batter to intentionally walk three times in a game was Bernie Williams against the Tampa Bay Rays in September 1999.
Yankees star Gerrit Cole returned to the mound after missing his scheduled start at Philadelphia on Tuesday because of general fatigue. The right-hander struggled through a lengthy second inning but rallied to make it to the sixth, retiring 10 of his final 11 batters.
Cole allowed two runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking none.
For the Blue Jays, Mexican Alejandro Kirk was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 1-for-5.
For the Yankees, Dominican Juan Soto went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Venezuelan Gleyber Torres went 2-for-5.
