Yanev: The decision between Skopje and Sofia is in the hands of politicians, not historians – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Bulgaria

The decision on the issue between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia is in the hands of politicians. Historians should not be conductors in politics, because politics is the responsibility of governments. This was stated in an interview with MIA by the caretaker Prime Minister of Bulgaria Stefan Yanev.

According to him, it is necessary for the two governments to sit down and talk pragmatically about the things that can be done to reach a solution.

“Historians are people of science. In my opinion, people of science should be engaged only in science, to prove their theses, of course, on the basis of facts and evidence with the necessary seriousness and responsibility. But they should not be conductors in politics, because politics is the responsibility of governments, “the Bulgarian prime minister was quoted as saying by bTV.

Yanev emphasizes that politics is the responsibility of the executive branch, which cares about the needs of citizens. And the needs of the citizens are determined by voting in the respective elections. This means that the solution to this issue is in the political life and in the hands of the governments of the two countries, the Prime Minister concluded.

According to Yanev, the implementation of the Neighborhood Agreement is slow, and the Joint Bulgarian-Macedonian Commission on Historical and Educational Issues has not made progress in work you are. This became clear in the first or second year.

“Do we have to wait another five years for this commission to achieve something?” In my opinion, this is not realistic, “said Stefan Yanev.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister noted that this is also his appeal – the issue to be resolved between the two governments.

Yanev is pleased that Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will be his guest this Thursday.

Governments will sit down and talk pragmatically about things that can be done. “As I have already said, with all the goodwill that was expressed at the signing of the Neighborhood Agreement in 2017, it is obvious that its implementation is not taking place. Here, we are already in the fourth year since the contract was signed, and we have not made any progress, “said Bulgarian Prime Minister Stefan Yanev.
