/ world today news/ / world today news/ Acting Minister of Justice Yanaki Stoilov submits to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) a request to open a procedure for early termination of the powers of the Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev.

The request is in connection with a 100-page report by the Acting Minister of the Interior on violations committed by the chief prosecutor – data on Ivan Geshev’s actions and inactions, damaging the prestige of the judiciary and violating the Magistrate’s Code of Ethics.

“It’s only about circumstances that are from last year mainly, not about any new circumstances, so they affect a longer period, in which there are both reasons for his proposal, and there are also applications in which direct references, publications in the media – Bulgarian and foreign, including photos – are cited and presented,” explained Stoilov.

The Minister of Justice has scheduled a meeting of the SJC plenum for July 22, at which the request will be discussed.

The Prosecutor’s Office: An act aimed only at political dividends

“A political act aimed only at political dividends and PR”. With these words, the spokesperson of the chief prosecutor Siika Mileva commented on the proposal to open a procedure for the early termination of Ivan Geshev, which will be submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council by the acting minister of justice Yanaki Stoilov:

“The Prosecutor’s Office is not surprised that the Acting Minister of Justice, fulfilling the will of the Acting Minister of the Interior, Mr. Boyko Rashkov, submits such a proposal to the Supreme Judicial Council. We are surprised as to why he is submitting it only now, days before the mandate of the Acting Government expires From now on, the Supreme Judicial Council is competent,” she said.
