Yana & Jana is the name of a new cultural project that will bring literature and music to the stage of the Mittelhessen Music Center on September 30th. Aayana Batô and Stephanie Jana are behind it.

Pour (red). Yana & Jana is the name of the new local cultural project that brings literature and music together on stage. It starts on Saturday, September 30th, with a (already sold out) musical premiere reading show entitled “Light is still burning in the Ballhaus” in the Mittelhessen Music Center.

“The stage name was clear very quickly,” says the Giessen singer Aayana Batô, who most people call Yana. Batô forms the duo together with the Giessen author Stephanie Jana. »We both have the same name. For one it’s the first name, for the other it’s the last name,” explains the singer, who otherwise performs at weddings, birthdays and company events – sometimes with or without a band, depending on her wishes. “We offer musical reading shows and literary music events,” says the artist duo’s website.

The idea for “Yana & Jana” came about in 2019 while working on the “Storytellers” project – a charity evening at “Who Killed the Pig” where musical contributions alternated with literary ones. Stephanie Jana remembers: “That evening I read a story that featured the song ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince. When I finished reading this passage, Aayana started singing the song – pure goosebumps!” “It was really well received and we thought it was a really great concept,” Aayana Batô remembers the beginning. This is how the two friends came up with the idea of further deepening the connection between music and literature. “The whole thing is obvious,” says Batô, because: “Both are poetry. Words are like music and music is full of words.«

The duo offers evenings on fixed themes such as love, friendship or peace with their own or well-known texts and appropriately coordinated music. The two can also be booked for individual events and plan a musical-literary stage show as desired for special occasions. But one thing is always clear: »We tell personal stories at the shows. We want to touch people and send people home with a good feeling«

The basis for the new program is the book “Light still burns in the ball house” by Stephanie Jana, which was published a few days ago by Goldmann Verlag. The historical novel is about a young dancer, a glamorous ballroom and great love in Berlin in the Golden 20s.

And so visitors can expect an evening in 1920s style on Saturday in the sold-out Mittelhessen Music Center. Stephanie Jana reads, Aayano Batô sings. But if you didn’t get a ticket, you don’t have to wait long. On Friday, October 6th, the show will be taking place in the hotel-restaurant “Goldener Stern” in Watzenborn-Steinberg, Stephanie Jana’s hometown. In addition to the show, guests can expect a stylish 1920s dinner. Tickets and information by email at: info@hotelgoldeners tern.com. Starts at 7:30 p.m. Further dates and information at: na.de.
