Visiting the editorial office ClarionYami Safdie says she is surprised and grateful with the public’s response to her songs. “Luckily, people connected a lot with the lyrics, the feeling and the stories behind the songs.”
-Is the EP Modales the album that best represents you so far?
-I feel like they are different facets of myself. My previous album was very different, a bit more introspective, with a more experimental sound. This one is more fun perhaps, but it also represents me a lot lyrically.

-How do you see today the journey you have made since you started uploading covers?
-I always say that every day I’m living the life of my dreams and that there were many times when I thought it wasn’t going to happen. I think back and say “Thank goodness I kept going!” because I would be missing out on a lot of things. Obviously there are more dreams to fulfill and there are many things I still want to achieve, but the fact of being able to live off my music, playing live, letting people know about my songs, letting them connect with that is already a gift. It’s everything I dreamed of.
-When did you start gaining popularity on social media?
-I started uploading cover content in 2017, and it was pretty gradual. Every now and then I would post a song that would go kind of viral and I would gain more followers, but the truth is that it was a very smooth process, until TikTok came along and it was a bit more of a boom. I had several videos that went very viral and a lot of people joined in too. It was a turning point, from doing covers to being kind of an influencer, showing my life and playing the songs. It was hard, but I did it.
-And what were the hits during the covers era?
-The first was Slowly. Then the song of The Money Heistvery trendy things. And on TikTok I sang a song from a Disney movie, Tangledand there were 20 million, a huge amount.
The collaborations
Regarding recordings with other singers, Yami says that “Everything happened not by chance, but by finding an artist that I liked and imagining him in a certain song.”
He says that, “In the case of Milo, I met him when nobody knew him and he was very young, with barely a thousand views on YouTube. But he is from the same neighborhood as my boyfriend, they show him to me and we can’t believe his voice, his style and his way of writing. And just a little while ago I had created the layout The bolero in the studio and I thought he could get into a flow. I sent it to him and he liked it and we got together.”

-From the rest of the scene, who do you have the most contact with?
-I get along with everyone, but I think I get along best with Milo, as well as his entire team from the Lower West, which also includes Nacho, my boyfriend.
-Would you like a session with Bizarrap?
-Yes, I would love to. I’ve known him for ages because he went to my school and he’s my best friend’s brother’s best friend. Every time we see each other we say hello. It would be great to work together someday.
-Finally, how do you imagine the end-of-year show at the Opera?
-It’s really going to be the biggest show of my entire career so far and I want to put a lot of love into it. We’ve been preparing everything for a long time. The full band will be there and we’ll even add several musicians, guests and friends. I’ll also have several costumes, new scenery, everything new, so it’s going to be really nice.
