That there are news coming for the Yamaha MT-09 is certainly not a mystery: the current model, renewed in 2018, is still linked to an engine born with MY2013, and therefore studied for the Euro3 / Euro4 regulations. And even if the determination is certainly not lacking in the naked / fun-bike of Iwata, equipped with a couple in the middle that makes it fun and … the most loved by thugs all over the world, there is that the arrival of the Euro-5 is an opportunity for Yamaha engineers to revise the engine and, instead of losing horsepower, gain something more in terms of performance.
It is therefore not surprising that Yamaha can choose the path of increasing cubic capacity: documents deposited with the German Federal Transport Authority (KBA) discovered by Motorrad colleagues show a new model with the name MTN890D. The current MT-09, with a displacement of 847 cc (find here all the announcements of new specimens, here those of used specimens) has the name MTN850D, the MT-07 (689cc) is registered as MTN690 and the MT-10 (998cc) as MTN1000.
It is therefore easy to assume a volume that rises to almost 900 cc, also because the maximum power value recorded rises to 120 horses from the current 115. It is unknown if the update also involves the MT-09SP set-up, or the other models that share the three-cylinder engine, from Tracer 900 to Niken. However, there is little to know more.
