Due to problems with the clutch, tens of thousands of motorcycles worldwide have to be returned to the dealer. This applies to the models equipped with the CP2 engine block. This two-cylinder is installed in the Yamaha MT-07, XSR700, Tracer 700 and the Ténéré 700. Affected models have been produced since mid-December 2022. In the Netherlands, no Yamaha has yet to announce the recall.
Yamaha cites shaving blades as the cause of the recall
according to Yamaha the problems are due to the anti-corrosion agent used on the metal plates in the clutch pack. From December 2022, these are provided by another manufacturer. When the agent used mixes with the wear material of the clutch plates, a viscous substance is formed which prevents the clutch plates from moving freely. As a result, the clutch may not fully disengage when the lever is pressed, which could cause the motorcycle to move accidentally.
Owners of affected models are urged to make an appointment at the dealer. Yamaha indicates that both metal plates and the clutch brake will be replaced. This repair will be done free of charge for these models.
Remember also in the Netherlands
Motorcycles in the Netherlands are also involved in a recall. Vehicle owners are expected to be notified about this in the coming weeks. It is not known exactly how many motorcycles are being recalled in the Netherlands. Both Yamaha Netherlands and by RDW they have not mentioned the recall on their website yet.
