Jakarta –
Yamaha has apparently been ‘exporting’ the MT-07 for a long time. But not complete units are exported but only machines.
PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) announced that it had exported the complete Yamaha MT-07 to several countries in Europe. This is proof that Indonesia’s domestic production is no less good than other countries.
However, Yamaha apparently said that Yamaha Indonesia has long been exporting important components for the Yamaha MT-07.
“Actually, the engines have been produced in Indonesia for a long time, but we have not been allowed to export them in CBU form. The engines made in Indonesia are sent to Japan, they make them and then export them to countries that need them,” said Asst. General Manager Marketing – Public Relations PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), Antonius Widiantoro in Mataram, Lombok, NTB.
Not only that, Anton added that apart from the Yamaha MT-07 engine, Yamaha Indonesia is currently still producing Tenere 700 and XXR 700 engines. However, the units have not been exported in their entirety.
“The Yamaha Tenere 700 and Yamaha XXR engines are also produced here (Indonesia),” Anton added.
Even though it has exported the Yamaha MT-07, Yamaha still hasn’t sold it in Indonesia. It is not without reason that the price factor is one of the main considerations.
“Why isn’t the MT-07 sold in Indonesia? We imported it in 2020, actually we thought that if we sold it like that, the price would be very high, because of taxes and so on, this is what made the price soar. If we sold it straight away, it still wouldn’t clear “those taxes, so the price is still relatively high,” Anton explained.
Previously, President Director & CEO of Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) Dyonisius Beti explained that YIMM had not yet sold the MT-07 motorbike in Indonesia, because it was still hampered by the luxury vehicle tax.
“The problem is, regulations in Indonesia require you to pay tax on 250 cc and 700 cc. So for example the value is 1,000, the tax on luxury goods is 95 percent. So 1,000 becomes 1,950, VAT 11 percent, then 5 percent,” said Dyon at YIMM Java West, Karawang (5/10/2023) yesterday.
“That’s a price of 1,000, so how many thousand? Not to mention BBN, that’s why the price of CBU in Indonesia is more expensive than abroad. Because our taxes are very high for big motorbikes. (Not only imported ones) are domestically produced. “We also have to pay (tax). Yamaha Indonesia is a tax compliant company, that’s why we are obliged to collect the tax,” explained Dyon.
