PT Pertamina (Persero) is set to launch its newest fuel oil (BBM) product, Bioethanol, which will be on par with Pertamax Plus. The composition of this fuel consists of a mixture of Pertamax and 5 percent ethanol. However, the question arises: is it safe for Yamaha motorbikes in Indonesia to use bioethanol?
PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (YIMM) is confident that the fuel being sold will meet the specifications of their vehicles. However, they will conduct further checks to assess the impact of using bioethanol. Antonius Widiantoro, the Assistant General Manager of Marketing Public Relations at PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Mfg, stated, “We will definitely carry out further checks and evaluations internally if indeed the bioethanol has been marketed.”
Bioethanol is produced through the fermentation of molasses or molasses. This fuel will have an octane number or RON 95, equivalent to Pertamax Plus. RON 95 is generally suitable for motorcycles with an engine compression ratio of 11:1 to 12:1, including Yamaha motorbike models such as the R25 and MT-25.
Anton revealed that Yamaha has already produced a motorbike that can run on bioethanol. However, this model is exported to Europe, where bioethanol with a 5 percent content is already being used. “The fuel used there also uses bioethanol 5. So the Yamaha products we sell there are indeed ready to use bioethanol 5,” explained Anton.
Pertamina is planning to sell bioethanol starting in July 2023, with Surabaya being the first city to launch this new product. Pertamina’s Main Director, Nicke Widyawati, stated, “So first in Surabaya and then in Jakarta.” The price range of bioethanol will be the same as fuel with an octane number of 95, although the exact amount has not been disclosed.
As the launch of bioethanol approaches, Yamaha and other motorbike manufacturers will closely evaluate the impact of this new fuel on their vehicles. The safety and performance of Yamaha motorbikes in Indonesia will be a top priority, ensuring that they are compatible with the bioethanol being sold by Pertamina.
In what ways does blending Pertamax with 5 percent ethanol in the Bioethanol product enhance its quality and performance compared to traditional fuel options
PT Pertamina (Persero) is soon introducing its latest fuel oil (BBM) product called Bioethanol, which will offer the same remarkable quality as Pertamax Plus. Bioethanol is composed of a blend of Pertamax and 5 percent ethanol, providing a more eco-friendly fuel option.
