Yakutia ranks fourth in the Far Eastern Federal District by HIV prevalence

Yakutia ranks fourth in the prevalence of HIV infection in the Far Eastern Federal District. This was reported to News.Ykt.Ru in the “AIDS Center” of Yakutia.

HIV is most prevalent in Primorsky, Khabarovsk territories and Buryatia. According to doctors, as of May 1, 2020, the total number of HIV-infected people registered in Yakutia since 1996 is 2,602, of whom 1,961 are Russian citizens, 256 are foreigners.

Over all years of observation, 407 HIV-infected people died in the republic, of which 160 were diagnosed with AIDS. 213 babies were born from HIV-infected mothers in Yakutia.

In the “AIDS Center” News.Ykt.Ru reported that this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will not be possible to carry out actions dedicated to World AIDS Day, which is celebrated every third Sunday of May every year.

“This year, due to the pandemic, we will not be able to carry out, as in previous years, large commemorative events and mass campaigns, which include not only drawing attention to the HIV problem, but also holding mass campaigns for rapid testing of the population for HIV infection and viral hepatitis. But we hope that as soon as the self-isolation regime is lifted in the republic, we will definitely hold such mass actions: we have everything for this, ”the AIDS Center said.

Now AIDS Center employees are actively involved in the fight against coronavirus infection. The center, specializing in HIV prevention, detection and treatment, has high-tech laboratory equipment, qualified medical personnel, including specialists in infectious diseases and epidemiologists. Currently, the medical center uses its technologies around the clock for the diagnosis and analysis of COVID-19.
