Yakub Zakriev appointed as new General Director of Danone Russia: Nationalization and the role of Chechnya

Yakub Zakriev, head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Chechnya, became the new general director of Danone Russia LLC after the transfer of the company to the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency. The Bell drew attention to the corresponding changes in SPARK.

Earlier, a source of the publication reported that the nationalization of Danone’s assets has “interesters in Chechnya.”

Zakriev is the nephew (son of his own sister) of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. Before heading the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, he served as mayor of Grozny, and also led the administration of the head and government of Chechnya.

Taimuraz Bolloev, who had already headed Baltika from 1991 to 2004, became the president of LLC Baltika Brewing Company, which was actually nationalized simultaneously with the Russian division of Danone.

The decree on the transfer of the share of foreign shareholders of the Baltika brewing company and the Danone concern “to the temporary administration of the Federal Property Management Agency” was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16.

In fact, the decree of Putin, signed in April, allows the Russian authorities to nationalize foreign assets of legal entities and individuals from “unfriendly countries”. The first company whose assets were transferred “for temporary management” to the state was the Finnish Fortum, the largest foreign investor in the Russian electricity market.
