Yahya Sinwar: New Israeli video of battle killed – Hailed as a hero in Palestine – He predicted his death –

A tank fire has killed Yahya Shinwar, the leader of Hamas, according to a new video released by Israeli sources.

The previous video showed him dying, with a severed arm trying to shoot down the Israeli army drone that was filming him.

The last video shows a tank firing straight into a ruined building.

Many Palestinians, including politician Mustafa Barghouti, say the way Sinwar died “exposes Netanyahu’s lies” because the Hamas leader was not hiding in tunnels but fighting on the front lines.

“Hero” for Palestinians

For one father in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar‘s death on the battlefield while trying to fend off a drone with a stick shows “how heroes die”, while for others it is an example for future generations, even if some lament the devastating cost of the war he started with Israel.

Israeli media described him as having died “like a dog in Gaza” and many Western countries said his death may have removed a major obstacle to a truce deal.

But the video of him with his face covered and seriously injured in a bomb-damaged apartment trying to throw a stick at the drone filming him caused pride among Palestinians.

“He died wearing a military vest, fighting with a rifle and grenades and when he was wounded and bleeding, he fought with a stick. This is how a hero dies,” Abel Rajab, 60, who has two children, said in Gaza.

“I watched the video 30 times since last night, there is no better way to die,” said Ali, a 30-year-old taxi driver in Gaza.

“This video will be a daily obligation for my sons to watch and for my grandsons in the future,” he added, referring to his two children.

Sinwar’s words in previous speeches, where he said he would rather die at the hands of Israel than from a cardiac arrest or an accident, have been repeatedly shared by Palestinians online.

“The best gifts the enemy and the occupying forces can offer me is to assassinate me and die as a martyr at their hands”he had said.

Recruitment Tool

Now many are wondering if Israel will regret granting Shinuar’s wish. Because it will be viewed as a potential recruiting tool for the Hamas it is trying to destroy.

“They said he was hiding in the tunnels. They say he kept Israeli prisoners by his side to save his life. Yesterday we saw that he was chasing Israeli soldiers in Rafah, where the occupation forces have been operating since May,” said Rasha, a displaced 42-year-old mother of four.

“This is how leaders die, with a rifle in hand. I support Sinuar as a leader and today I am proud of him as a witness,” she added.

Rajab, who hailed Sinwar’s death as heroic, says he does not support the Oct. 7 attacks, believing the Palestinians were not prepared for an all-out war with Israel. She noted, however, that the way he died “made me proud to be a Palestinian.”

In both Gaza and the West Bank, where Hamas also receives significant support and where hostilities between Israeli occupation forces and Palestinians have escalated in the past year, citizens are wondering whether Sinwar’s death could hasten the end of the war .

In Hebron, Alaa Hasalmoun argues that Sinuar’s death would not mean a more conciliatory leader. “What I can understand is that anybody dies, there is somebody who replaces him and is more opinionated,” he argued.

And in Ramallah, 54-year-old Murad Omar said little could change on the ground.

“The war will continue and it seems that it will not end soon,” he said.
