After the storm that arose about a month and a half ago in Safed – following the exposure of a senior missionary who pretended to be ultra-Orthodox and tried to enter educational institutions in the city – an urgent training meeting was held between the organization’s representatives and the rabbis of the city of Safed, prominent Torah scholars and senior educators from the educational institutions – to warn them of the danger.
Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, opened the meeting, which was also attended by Rabbi Mordechai Bistritzky, the chairman of the religious council, Rabbi Nahorai Lahiani, and businessmen and administrators of major educational institutions in the city, and veteran activist Rabbi Benjamin Kluger, who tastefully explained the missionary narrative behind Their attempt to pose as rabbis to preach conversion.
As part of his remarks, a fruitful discussion arose between the participants, when they asked many questions on the subject and raised important refinements.
After Rabbi Kluger, Rabbi Yoav-Zev Robinson, one of the senior Yad Lachhim activists, gave a speech, who in turn expanded on the cases he exposed – of missionaries posing as religious and ultra-Orthodox, in order to preach Christianity. According to him, this is a phenomenon that used to be rare, but in recent years has been expanding, with Yad Lachaim standing in the gap to reveal their identity to the general public.
Rabbi Shimon Abergel, the organization’s field coordinator, elaborated on the senior missionary whose actions, as mentioned, caused a storm, his history, his extensive connections with various churches and mission organizations, and on activity in other places for religious conversion.
At the end of the conversation, Rabbi Eliyahu promised that the Rabbinical Office will distribute the special warning and information booklet that Yad Lachaim issued on the subject, to all the rabbis of the various neighborhoods and communities, synagogue collectors and charity collectors, and all businessmen in the city.
“The meeting sparked an important conversation like no other,” said the headquarters of the department for the fight against Yad Lachhim.
According to them, “The conclusion of the meeting was the call issued by Rabbi Eliyahu to all the rabbis of the city of Safed, to all the rabbis and residents of Safed; The war in the north is not about to end, and therefore, the missionaries will try to reach the Holy City in other ways, taking advantage of the security crisis and the other crises it brings in its wake.”
At the same time, Yad Lachaim is on alert for fear of missionary activity that will try to take root in other localities in the north under the auspices of the war, and the Shibim organization urges anyone who encounters such activity to call the emergency hotline numbered 9234*. “One dial saves many Jews”.
