XXXI International Sigulda Opera Music Festival: Important Update and Schedule for 2019

Dainis Kalns, the founder and main organizer of the Opera Music Festival, informs that the current situation will not affect the upcoming Opera Music Festival.

This summer, the XXXI Sigulda Opera Music Festival will take place in the Sigulda castle ruins, the main event of which is the original production of the opera “La Traviata” by the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. World-class star Peretjatko (Switzerland) was chosen to play the main role of Violeta in the opera.

Kalns explains that, taking into account the fact that Peretyatko, when submitting an application to the organizers for her participation in the Sigulda Opera Music Festival, hid important facts, namely, multiple performances in Russia during the time when it carried out and continues to carry out active hostilities in the sovereign state of Ukraine, and this spring she has planned concerts in Russia, the organizers of the Opera Music Festival will break the contract with this singer, because they are convinced that artists who support the regime of the aggressor state have no place in Latvian cultural life.

The XXXI International Sigulda Opera Music Festival will take place from July 26 to July 28.

On Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m., the opening concert of the XXXI International Sigulda Opera Music Festival “Opera Overture” will be held in the garden of Sigulda’s New Castle, with the participation of Latvian National Opera soloists Rinalds Kandalincevs and Marlēna Keine, pianist Agnese Egliņa and violinist Dainis Medjaniks.

On Saturday, July 27, at 9 p.m., the original production of Verdi’s opera “Traviata” is expected in the ruins of Sigulda. On July 28, at 1:00 p.m., a sacred music concert will be held in the Sigulda Evangelical Lutheran Church. But at 18.00 in the Sigulda castle ruins – a gala concert in which Maija Kovalevska, Jānis Apeinis, Rihards Machanovskis, Krišjānis Norvelis, Jūlija Vasilieva, Mihails Chulpajevs, Medjaniks (violin) will perform.
