XXVII Provincial Contest of Asturiana de los Valles: A Grand Success with Nearly 150 Cattle and a Large Audience

Beef farming was the great attraction of the weekend in Villablino, with the celebration of the XXVII Provincial Contest of Asturiana de los Valles, which brought together almost a hundred and a half cattle and a large audience at the fair.

The competition activity opened on Friday with the arrival of the cattle to settle in the enclosure’s moorings. Already on the very cool morning of Saturday, the qualifications of the animals began with the judge authorized by the Spanish Association of Breeders of Select Beef Cattle of the Asturian Valley Breed (Aeava) in charge of the assessments.

As the morning progressed and the temperatures rose somewhat, the influx of public increased and, after noon, completely filled the stands installed in addition to the existing one around the exhibition and competition ring and greatly animated the venue. The same thing happened with the afternoon.

It had only been ten days since La Feriona, the historic livestock fair in Laciana, was held, which barely managed to bring together fifty cattle at the fair, during a general break in this type of events. And this weekend, 140 heads of cattle of the breed participated in the contest, from 27 farms in the northwest of the province, mostly Babia, Laciana, Palacios del Sil; and one from the central mountain, from La Robla.

Making it clear that exhibitions and competitions have greater appeal among both ranchers, curious people and the general public. Because as ranchers in the region have already commented on numerous occasions, animal sales today are made more through other means than at fairs.

Sunday morning was dedicated to the awards ceremony (listed below) in which various local public officials from Villablino were seen. From nearby municipalities, Palacios del Sil, Igüeña or Murias de Paredes. And also representatives of the Provincial Council of León, which participates annually in the financial financing of the contest.

Among the winners, the champion stallion stood out in normal fitness Bandit, from the Rial de Torrebarrio livestock farm, the same also in the steer category. In the adult cow mode, Colonel, by David López, from Sosas de Laciana, won the award. In culon fitness, the champion stallion won Cordero, from Rivas López, from San Miguel de Laciana. And in adult cow mode, she was Reign, of the same owner and origin. And like champion cows of the contest in normal fitness, he repeated colonel by David López, from Sosas de Laciana and in culon fitness Panther wonfrom Casa Pin de Caboalles de Abajo.

We attach all the awards from this year’s edition:
