FAJAR.CO.ID, BANDUNG — The process of selecting candidates for Central PWI General Chair (Ketum) for the 2023-2028 period at the 2023 Central PWI XXV Congress which was held at the El Hotel Bandung City, lasted until midnight Wednesday, (27/9/2023) . Two candidates are competing closely and only have a difference of one vote.
In this congress, there are three candidates. The three, namely the incumbent, Atal Sembiring Depari, then the Deputy Chair of the Press Council who is also the Secretary General of PWI for the 2008-2013 and 2013-2023 periods, Hendry Chairudin Bangun, and the Chair of PWI Riau, Zulmansyah Sekedang.
The results of the interim election for the candidate for general chairman of the first professional journalist organization in Indonesia, Atal, who is also the incumbent, received 40 votes, followed by Hendry Chairudin Bangun who only had one vote difference from Atal, while Zulmansyah Sekedang received 9 votes. Total 88 Votes.
If you look at these results, the election for the candidate for Central PWI General Chair (Ketum) for the 2023-2028 period will be held in a second round, without half plus one of the votes.
Previously, President Joko Widodo officially opened the XXV Congress of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) 2023 which was held at the State Palace in Jakarta, Monday (25/9/2023).
In his speech, the Head of State invited members of the Indonesian press to continue to uphold the journalistic code of ethics.
“In fact, this (journalistic code of ethics) is a plus for the media and press. “This is precisely the advantage of the media and press compared to citizen journalism,” said the President.
Jokowi also emphasized that members of the Indonesian press should not be provoked by something viral or hoax in creating good news.
