According to provisional data from the consulting firm Comscore Movies, The XXI edition of the Film Festival has registered a total of 1,198,062 spectators, 22.5 percent more than the last edition held in May of this same year, exactly representing an increase of 220,348 tickets sold now. However, the figures fall by more than seven percent compared to the October 2022 Film Festival.
The second Film Festival of 2023 started on Monday, October 2, with an attendance of 202,743 spectators. On Tuesday, October 3, attendance was 293,807 spectators. On Wednesday, October 4, attendance registered a total of 377,924 spectators. Finally, yesterday, Thursday, October 5, the last day of the event, a total of 323,588 spectators were registered, to end this new edition with a total of 1,198,062 spectators in one of the 326 participating cinemas throughout Spain, which added up to a total of 2,897 screens.
‘The Creator’
The previous promotion held last May, the twentieth edition of the Film Festival, was one of the worst in history in a normalized environment, with a total of 977,714 spectators. And this year’s Spring Film Festival started on Monday, May 15, with an attendance of 234,886 spectators. On Tuesday, May 16, attendance was 221,748 spectators. On Wednesday, May 17, attendance registered a total of 277,466 spectators. Finally, on Thursday, May 19, the last day of the event, a total of 242,440 spectators were registered, ending this new edition with a total of 977,714 spectators.
However, if this year’s Autumn Film Festival is compared to the edition held in October last year, the figures are more even, although they are getting worse. The promotion held at the beginning of October 2022, the nineteenth, also over four days a total of 1,291,799 spectators were counted, which is almost 94,000 more spectators than in the last edition held just a few days ago. This means that the decrease in audience in the October 2023 edition is 7.2 percent, compared to the promotional campaign a year ago.
The pre-pandemic editions are far away. The seventeenth edition held before the pandemicthe second Film Festival of 2019, registered a total of 2,291,606 spectators in October, data that made it the second best edition in history, only by behind October 2016when a total of 2,598,958 spectators attended the cinemas for three days.
‘Campeonex’
Back to the present, ‘The Creator’ leads the ranking of most viewed films of this twenty-first edition of the Film Festival, among which are two Spanish films in the Top 10, ‘CampeoneX’ and ‘All the Names of God’, in sixth and tenth place, respectively.
Thus, the ten most viewed films of this edition, in order, have been: ‘The Creator’, ‘Mystery in Venice’, ‘Saw Lucky Stroke’, ‘The Equalizer 3’, ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘All the Names of God’.
