The France group has finished its summer tour in Japan.

The results are positive with two victories in two matches and a first place in the IRB classification.

Unfortunately, 16 players will have made the trip to Japan with the France group for almost nothing since they did not play a single second of play with the Blues.

Here is the list of the 16 players deprived of the match:

Matis Perchaud (Bayonne)
Remy Baget (Bayonne)
Thomas Laclayat (Oyonnax)
Enzo Reybier (Oyonnax)
Christopher Tolofua (Toulon),
Remi Picquette (La Rochelle)
Swan Rebbadj (Toulon)
Matthias Haddad-Victor (La Rochelle)
Bastien Vergnes-Taillefer (Bordeaux-Begles)
Nolann Le Garrec (Racing 92)
Louis Carbonel (Toulon)
Tani Vili (Clermont)
Jules Favre (La Rochelle)
Louis Le Brun (Castres)
Aymeric Luc (Toulon)
Romain Buros (UBB)

It’s always heartbreaking for these players not to join a game sheet.

This is also what Stade-Français Paris opener Joris Segonds explained last summer, he who had returned from the Blues Tour in Australia without having played a single match. Extract:

When they called me, I had a waking dream. But here it is: I am a competitor and I would have liked to have my chance, in Australia. The other players in my situation were also jaded. It is nevertheless part of the game. I knew, when I joined Australia, that I might not be part of the plans. It was a test, which some resented. For my part, I just said to myself: “You are not yet at the level of the others. Work and come back stronger.” That’s what I’ve been trying to do ever since. »

Last Sunday following the first victory of the Blues against Japan, the manager of the France team, Raphaël Ibanez was already preparing the ground for the disappointed who will not have had the opportunity to play. Extract:

“Our players must realize that with the great sporting events to come, everything will count: the game, the rugby talent but also the attitude. There are around eighteen players who may feel some frustration. We can understand it but we will focus on everyone’s behavior, their ability to stay mobilized, focused. For us it’s the last week of rugby of the season, but it’s especially the last week before the November tests. In our mind, the connection is already made. »

Karim Ghezal, the coach of the Tricolor key confirmed. Extract:

“In our mind, nothing is fixed. Thomas Lavault, for example, did all the preparation with us during the last 6 Nations Tournament without having a match sheet. Four months later, he landed his first cap in Japan. Everything is open. In any case, this is the message that we want to convey. »

For his part, Laurent Labit indicates that the France group’s project does not stop at the 2023 World Cup. Extract:

” We, we want to develop players and as Fabien Galthié often says, there will be a French team after 2023. To do this, we have to stay at the top and compete with the best nations for as long as possible. This is the reason why we took on three or four players this summer who had excelled with the under-20s, such as Nolann Le Garrec, Enzo Reybier or Louis Lebrun. They will be brought to play with the selection very quickly. »

And unfortunately, there will always be disappointed people, at least as long as Fabien Galthié summons 42 players to prepare for his matches. A method that may disappoint some players but which has proven itself in the field.
