XV Book Fair in Cuéllar: Promoting Reading and Literacy Activities

Los Paseos de San Francisco will once again be the setting chosen to promote reading in Cuéllar. On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June it will host the XV Book Fair with the participation of six bookstores, three of them from Cuéllar, as well as workshops, storytelling, book presentations, children’s activities, music and dance. As explained by the acting Councilor for Education, Raquel Gilsanz, there will also be a children’s area with games, there will be no shortage of open micros for poetry and in collaboration with the Provincial Council there will be the presence of a bookmobile in which the public will be involved through various challenges. The fair will end with a musical tour of percussion and dulzaina by the School of Music, which will depart from the School’s own headquarters to the Paseos de San Francisco.

Throughout the two days, book presentations are another of the fair’s proposals. On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., Javier Sanz, from San Miguel del Arroyo, will present his science fiction novel ‘Cuerpo y Revolución’, his first novel written in 2021. Later it will be the turn of Roberto Losa and ‘The Alchemist between the Sources’ , crime novel with historical overtones that takes place in El Real Sitio de San Ildefonso and also in other places in the province such as Cuéllar. The presentations continue on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. with Cuellarana Eva Ortiz and her work ‘The Next Book’ and then Saúl Martín will do the same with ‘Cuentas Pending’. It is an old family account book from 1768 where information is collected on marriage dowries, accounting of towns in the Community of Villa y Tierra…

At the fair, several wooden booths will house the bookstores from Cuellar, Librería Goyca, El País de Jauja and El Desván de Papiana. The publishing house Oceano Atlántico, the Cervantes Poetic Association and the Itinerant Bookstore will also be present. In the organization cast, the activities of the Cronista Herrera Municipal Library will be announced, where residents who do not yet have the card will be able to carry it out there. Among the activities of the fair, a fun puppet show by Kamarú Teatro with ‘Bucaneros’, a participatory and family proposal, stands out. Luisa Villalba will be present with her caricatures, Ediciones Tralari will hold a workshop to create a totem, the María Parrato Puppet Company will represent the storyteller ‘Gallinas y Magdalenas’ and the Nirvana School will perform a dance performance with their students.
