XtraChill – Episode 374 – 01. August 2022

Dear friends, I welcome you to “XtraChill” – probably the longest-lasting private music podcast in German! It’s August 1st, 2022, but in fact I produced this 374th episode a week ago, because if you can hear my voice now, I’m already on my way to Italy. And since I’ll be there for a few weeks, today’s issue is also the last episode before the annual summer break – so we won’t see each other again for four weeks, on September 1st.

But before that, of course, you can expect a killer playlist of eight podsafe tracks – which I laid out today as a long music set. So there’s no annoying chatter between tracks, I’ll introduce the artists and songs now as there are some new names that I want to go into a bit more detail about.

Traditionally, summer is always a bit of “sour pickle time” – the media likes to fall back on repetitions, and I too will warm up the concept from episode 370 today when I present ambient tracks with dub or minimal techno – or minimal house pieces in an exciting dialogue. Today, however, as already mentioned, as a long, continuous music set.

It starts with THE “XtraChill” artist of the year 2022 – a title that I can undoubtedly already award. POST APOCALYPTIC alias Tadeus Jatkevic is again at the start today with an ambient track. And the young man from Lithuania approaches it quite philosophically on his new long player, which he calls “Self Acceptance” and from that I chose the no less insightful title “Nothing Lasts Forever”.

Three and a half new performances follow. First we go to Romania, to the MARINCU project – the name is the artist’s family name, the first name is Andrei and he just released a small album with “Apnea”. It’s called “First Return” and I play the track “Silk Shop” from it.

Also for the first time, the solo project SOTVORISHI entered the “XtraChill” stage. The artist’s real name is Roman Kustodiev and he lives in Belarus. With his Siberian colleagues from the label “Secret Domain” he released his album “Vault of Heaven”, which also contains the ambient number “From a Bird’s-eye View”.

After far too long, an artist is finally doing the honors again, a young French woman is behind the name JUU JUU. On the net label “Melotonin” she brought out an exciting long player, which was briefly and succinctly named “Trippy”. Many minimal techno tracks on it convinced me, but especially the piece “Natural Mystic”.

Half of the new performance follows, because contribution number five is a joint effort – by MARTIN JARL, who we know very well, and the PHELIAN project from New Orleans – the young man, however, conceals his real name. The joint album was called “5001 Miles” and of the many ambient tracks, “Dawn” in particular stuck in my head.

Now three more pieces by well-known “XtraChill” names follow, it continues with minimal techno by DAVOR TOSOVIC from Serbia – and the album “Meditation Chamber” is another find on the “Melotonin” label – and we hear the number ” mind in motion”.

Now it’s the turn of ambient music for the last time and my choice comes from the long ignored category “Known albums – newly listened to”. In this case it’s about the long player “Emerald Landscape” by SACRED SEEDS, which I put on for the first time in Episode 370 – and at the same time the ambient label “Atlantea Records”. Today I play the title track of the album.

I leave today’s episode bouncer, which at 9 minutes and 41 seconds is also the longest entry on the playlist, to HERMAN CRANTZ from Sweden, who is my guest for the third time today. His album “Sunny Days” saw the virtual light of life at “Cold Tear Records” and I was immediately hooked on the track “Ratom” which will round off this summery “XtraChill” episode.

But first I would like to point out that you can find all information about the show, such as the links to the artists and the sources of the songs, on my website xtrachill.podigee.io or xtrachill.de – in the show notes for the podcast . Subscribe to “XtraChill” via one of the many platforms and apps and comment on the individual episodes on my home page or via my Soundcloud profile soundcloud.com/xtrachill – or on YouTube. I can be reached, even on vacation, via the email address [email protected]. Support my guests and the labels by buying their music or streaming it for a fee – ideally via Bandcamp.

With that, I’m ringing in the four-week summer break, dear ones. Enjoy August and don’t forget to tune in again on September 1st for Episode 375. Take care, stay healthy and see you next time here on XtraChill!
