Michalis Chrysochoidis from Thessaloniki gave the assurance that the whole truth will be revealed about the femicide with a victim on 28-year-old Sunday outside the Agioi Anargyro police station.
“Four days after the tragic incident where a young girl, Kyriaki Griva, was lost, we all continue to grieve and mourn. I am devastated and personally, it is one of the most unpleasant and difficult moments I have experienced in my long journey and in my personal life” emphasized Mr. Chrysochoidis.
At the same time, he expressed his condolences to the relatives of the 28-year-old and underlined how there will be the necessary reckoning so that such events do not happen again.
“My condolences to the family of the young woman who passed away. The investigation is going on at high speed, I am sure it will be over very quickly and the full truth will be revealed. The Greek police sent to all the authorities and they themselves are conducting investigations with the material, without hiding anything. The whole truth will be revealed and attributed to the citizens of the country. There will be the necessary reckoning so that such events do not happen again,” he said.
“Yes to the term femicide, but it needs discussion”
“When a life is lost, nothing is well-done”, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, emphasized yesterday, speaking about the femicide in Saints Anargyros, adding that “this incident is one of the most shocking, because a young 28-year-old girl has gone in a painful way, in a violent way, and we are all mourning that.”
About that even special police training is provided to welcome such incidents and whether this femicide could have been avoided, Mr. Chrysochoidis stated that “it is important to investigate how the incident happened. When such an incident goes to the police there are very specific protocols which a police officer follows to manage the incident, for which police officers are trained. So it should be examined whether all this was implemented”.
He emphasized that: “We have over 17,000 police officers trained in this.” He explained again that, “what is important is to fully investigate the incident, under what conditions it was carried out, how the girl lost her life. We will conduct an in-depth investigation so that any responsibility can be attributed or any negligence, inaction, omission can be cured and punished and on the other hand, we can assure the citizens that a very big effort is being made.”
He added that after covid there is an increase in such incidents and that this is a social issue that we need to discuss at another level, as a society. “But on the other hand, because the last recipient of this case is the police, the police must, they struggle, they make a great effort to manage the incidents in the best way,” he said.
