(Elbil24): Xpeng is a Chinese car brand that is already rolling on Norwegian roads, and has been doing so for well over a year already. However, there is no huge number, around 800 of the G3 crossover and 200 of the “Tesla clone”, the P7 sedan. The Norwegian importer also had ambitions to adopt the P5 model, but it is currently put on hold.

Upgraded knowledge

Elbil24 was among the very first to test the G3, it happened already last winter – and we got to try it in real cold. At the time, we concluded that it was a handsome car with a lot of equipment for a relatively reasonable price, but drew, among other things, for the lack of support for lightning charging (Chademo, max 50 kW) and short range in the cold. Despite some other small picks as well, it ended up with a four on the dice.

The car is now ready in an upgraded version, and this has been named G3i.

The G3i has got a completely new, and in our opinion, nicer front that is in line with the one you find P7. At the same time, the car should have been a few centimeters longer, and received some upgrades in the inventory.

The trunk is still 380 liters, which is quite in the middle of the tree for a car of 4.5 meters.

It has also received support for V2L, which means that you can draw power to everything from waffle irons to charging the electric bike, via a 230V adapter that is connected to the charging port.

Still Chademo

Surprisingly, Xpeng has not done anything with the charging solution. It still has a Chademo connector, which means that a number of new charging posts do not support it, and compatible fast chargers are still limited to 50 kW. This means that you have to take a good break every time you have to recharge when you are on a long trip. Xpeng itself estimates 43 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 percent capacity.

The battery is still at 66.5 kWh, which should maintain a range of 420 kilometers, according to WLTP measurements. In addition, this is a car that is well equipped, the price taken into account, with upgraded driver assistants and other safety solutions you normally have to go up in price range to find. G3i also has its own app for controlling locks and preheating, among other things, and it should be possible to upgrade OTA (over the air).

The car is delivered with front-wheel drive, 17 or 18 “wheels, and the acceleration from 0-100 km / h must be completed in 8.6 seconds.

Tough competition

What is perhaps most startling these days is that the price is not much higher than what the G3 cost a year ago – 358,000 against 369,900 for the G3i.

It is a price that should suit many budgets, and Xpeng uses the argument that you get a well-equipped car for the money. This does not mean that the competition will be easy, because both Polestar 2, Nissan Leaf, Cupra Born and VW ID.3 are among the competitors that must be considered very good alternatives in the same price range.

We must also not forget the Hyundai Kona, which is now available in a well-equipped version for a few thousand bucks more than the Xpeng G3i, with, among other things, better range, faster charging and the possibility of towing, something the G3i does not have. Xpeng promises a short delivery time on the G3i, and Hyundai promises to be able to deliver the Kona quickly.

Coming this summer

The first G3i copies will be ready for delivery already this summer, the company writes in a press release. We will return with more information when we get the car to test.
