Literature lovers flock to their annual appointment with Diana’s temple. The book Fair from Merida kicked off its XLII edition yesterday, which will run until next Sunday with more than 60 presentations and activities for all audiences. This literary event, which is already consolidated in the city, has on this occasion 18 exhibitors from bookstores, publishers and institutions. «I thank the booksellers and all those who participate for making this fair possible in this heritage setting. Let’s continue consuming culture, reading and traveling», affirmed the mayor, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna.
The official inauguration was carried out by Carmen Mola (alter ego of the authors Jorge Díaz, Agustín Martínez and Antonio Mercero), with the presentation of the book Las madres. On the opening day, their literary works were also presented by Yeliza Nayle (Time for a Woman), Beatriz Mariño (Oleus with Mixed Skin), José Ramón Alonso de la Torre (Franco’s Hairdresser 3. Generalissimo), Marta González (Before I Go and Brenda’s silence) and Inma Chacón (The iron room).
The booksellers have very good expectations for the fair. “The weather will be good and we hope it will be a good weekend”, indicated Álvaro Flores, from the Pla bookstore. “We hope there will be good attendance, since people generally respond well, they like it to be done in Diana’s temple,” said Manuel Torres, from Emérita Comics, which focuses on graphic literature.
Elena Ardila, from the Clips bookstore, also expressed herself along these lines, who is confident that there will be a good influx of public: “We hope a lot of people come and have a good time”. «I think it will be a good fair, because you can tell in the atmosphere that people want it. The authors that come are quite recognized, “said Mario Quintana, owner of La selva dentro. Finally, indicate that today Mercedes Marín, Paco Giraldo, Juan José Benítez Goya, Raquel Silva, Daniel Casado, Nando López and Luis García Montero will present their books. At night Pancho Varona will perform.
