Chinese tech giant Xiaomi’s electric car project is progressing faster and better than expected, the company’s chairman Lei Jun has revealed. He said that the testing of the car in winter conditions has been completed, and the time when the car will go into production has been confirmed – it is the first half of 2024.
The project has grown very rapidly in a couple of years and now around 2,300 people work in the car research and development department. A number of images have circulated on Chinese social media sites purporting to show the upcoming Xiaomi electric model. In one of them, you can see a rather pronounced ridge on the roof of the car. This could indicate the location of the LIDAR.
Since the announcement of this project in 2021, various bits of information about this Xiaomi car have been heard every now and then, but so far it is not very specific or accurate information. It is reported that the Chinese company is developing its autonomous driving technology and in the next few years, Xiaomi plans to be among the leading companies in the world in this field.
