Already tonight, Qualcomm will reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for the next generation of flagship smartphones, and the first of them will not be long in coming. Xiaomi has sent out invitations for the premiere of the Xiaomi 14 series of smartphones, which will take place unexpectedly soon – while the current generation Xiaomi 13 was presented last year on December 11, the successor series will premiere this Thursday, October 26.
The Xiaomi 14 crushed the iPhone 15 Pro in the benchmark
The specifications of the Xiaomi 14 smartphone were recently leaked on the Internet, so we have a fairly clear idea of its equipment. Above all, we know that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will be ticking in its guts, which has now also been confirmed by the GeekBench benchmark. He also revealed what we can expect from the upcoming mobile processor.

According to the benchmark, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor unit should consist of 4 clusters containing eight cores in a 1+3+2+2 configuration:
1 x super powerful Cortex-X4 core with a clock speed of 3.3 GHz 3 x powerful Cortex-A720 core with a clock speed of 3.15 Ghz 2 x powerful Cortex-A720 core with a clock speed of 2.96 GHz 2 x efficient core Cortex-A520 with a clock speed of 2, 27 GHz
This combination should bring a significant intergenerational improvement in performance – according to the benchmark, a test unit called “Xiaomi 23127PN0CC” scored 2,207 points in the single-core test, with all cores connected, the processor scored 7,494 points. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, this should be approximately a 5 or 20 percent increase in performance. If these numbers are confirmed, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will outperform even Apple’s recently introduced A17 Pro chipset powering the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, despite being manufactured on the more advanced 3nm process.

We will still have to wait for MediaTek
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has obvious ambitions to push the performance of mobile devices forward, but the question will be whether it will eventually have to bow to the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset. According to the latest speculation, the Taiwanese manufacturer is to choose an unconventional configuration of the processor unit, which is to completely ignore efficient cores in favor of the powerful ones. In the AnTuTu benchmark, MediaTek surpassed the goal of 2 million points, which no other mobile chipset has achieved so far. However, the question will also be how it will perform in terms of consumption and overheating.
While we will have to wait a little longer for the aforementioned MediaTek, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be revealed this evening and the Xiaomi 14 series smartphones on Thursday. In addition to the new phones, Xiaomi will also introduce its new HyperOS operating system, which will replace the beloved and hated MIUI environment.
