Several devices can be charged up to 5W without any physical obstacles disturbing the process. In the near future, Xiaomi hopes to make this technology compatible with other connected objects such as watches or bracelets. And the manufacturer to anticipate our future completely wireless living rooms, where the Internet of Things would be king: “Soon our living room devices, including speakers, desk lamps and other small smart home products , will all be designed on the basis of a power supply completely devoid of wires “.

This technology – if completed – would mark a big step forward for the sector. Current wireless charging technologies work by induction and require that the back of the device is in contact with the charging surface.

The only certainty so far is that the product should not be marketed this year, according to a representative of Xiaomi contacted by The Verge. No release date has yet been announced.
