Xiaomi unveiled a new experimental model for its Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition glasses, which the company provided with a display accuracy approaching the human retina, and a hand gesture control system, during the Barcelona Mobile Conference MWC 2023.
This model is the third of its kind from Xiaomi, after the first model came to light in 2021, along with a second model in August 2022.
Xiaomi offers, through its new model, two microLED screens with a brightness of up to 1200 light points, along with a system consisting of a number of cones to recreate images in front of the user’s eyes.
In addition to raising the display resolution to 58 pixels for the degree of one vision, which is very close to the degree of vision of the retina, which is estimated at 60 pixels for one degree.
The new Xiaomi experimental glasses for augmented reality introduce a new generation of electrochromic lenses, which provide accurate vision commensurate with the nature of the lighting surrounding the user, and it is also possible to convert them into VR glasses by making the lenses completely dark.
The new model allows very easy connection of the glasses to the user’s phone via NFC technology by simply clicking on the back of the phone on the arm of the glasses, in addition to providing a distinctive experience with phones compatible with the “Qualcomm Spaces” platform, such as “Xiaomi 13” phones, as well as the “OnePlus 11” phone.
Xiaomi indicated that the system for connecting the glasses to smart phones depends on its own technology for communications, as the data transfer delay rate is only 50 milliseconds.
The glasses use the latest Qualcomm processor for the Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 1 smart glasses, with the support of the Qualcomm platform to develop mixed reality experiences Snapdragon Spaces XR, which is the same chip and platform used by the latest Meta glasses “Quest Pro”.
Xiaomi’s experimental glasses also use its Mi Share data transfer service, so that the user can broadcast content from his phone to the glasses, such as YouTube videos and TikTok.
The Chinese company has developed a system of hand gestures AR Gesture Control to control the model of its new glasses and the content displayed inside it, as the user can browse the content through a simple movement of the hand and thumb to make scrolling content, in addition to the ability to control smart home devices such as opening and closing smart lights with a movement from the hand.
The company confirmed that the new model is still in the experimental stage and did not specify an exact date for its launch in the market.
