Samsung introduced the concept of a feature bar and quick apps pulled from the side with its Edge smartphones. Now there are no “edge” screens, in the concept initially created, but the option remains available and has even been adopted by other manufacturers, such as Huawei.
Xiaomi will be the next to bring this functionality to their smartphones and their MIUI.
Xiaomi brings Samsung functionality to your smartphones
The apps and quick features bar on the side is a very useful option for working with your smartphone with one hand. Various options or apps are easily retrieved, the most used ones, without having to access the general application list or even leaving the app you are currently in.
Samsung introduced this concept in its Edge smartphones, but today it is used naturally by many smartphone users of different brands. Xiaomi will be the next to have this option available.
A weekly MIUI update in the Chinese ROM (version V5.6.92-211028.0.1) already has a floating side box available for accessing applications or quick tasks.
An improvement that comes thanks to a new weekly update of MIUI China ROM 21.11.2, version V5.6.9-211028.0.1. An update that adds to compatible phones that install a kind of floating box of apps and shortcuts to access the most common functions.
As described, this option is called Smart Toolbox and can be found in the smartphone settings under Always on screen and Lock screen. As with Samsung smartphones, this option ends up being visible through a small bar against the side and can be positioned wherever it is most convenient.
On Huawei smartphones, for example, to access these apps it is necessary to pull the screen from any side and wait for a small four-square icon to appear. After that, the menu then appears.
It now remains to wait for the option to become available globally.
