Xiaomi has presented the Redmi K40 series of smartphones in China. Models from that series often come out later in Europe under different names. There are three models and they all have the same design but different components.
The three phones are all 163.7×76.4×7.8mm in size and weigh 196 grams. All three phones have a Samsung-made 120Hz OLED screen with a diagonal of 6.67 “and a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. They are 15.5x7cm screens with a surface of 107 square centimeters and an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The brightness can be up to 1300 candela per square meter, the manufacturer says, with a hole in it for the front camera.
The K40 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870-soc. That’s a refreshed version of last year’s Snapdragon 865. The K40 Pro and K40 Pro + both have a Snapdragon 888 soc. The phones have 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of lpddr5 memory and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The battery has a capacity of 4520mAh and can charge with 33W. Because Xiaomi allows the battery to continue charging at a higher speed for longer than before, it should be possible to go from 0 to 100 percent in 52 minutes.
The three phones all have an 8-megapixel camera with ultra-wide-angle lens in addition to the primary camera and a macro camera with a 50mm angle of view in 35mm equivalent and a five-megapixel resolution. The primary cameras differ.
The phones will be out next week. When and under what name the models will be released in Europe is not yet known. Last year’s Redmi K30 Pro came out under the name Poco F2 Pro a few months later, while the Redmi K20 series came to Europe as Mi 9T phones. The prices start at converted 255 euros for the K40, while the most expensive K40 Pro + is available for around 475 euros.
