Aldi seems to have taken a liking to Xiaomi. After first one Smartwatch sold at a hammer price Android phone will be offered in the coming month – with a really thick battery. GIGA reveals the details and gives an assessment of whether the purchase is worthwhile.

Aldi-Nord sells Xiaomi Redmi 8a for 99.99 euros

If you are currently looking for a cheap and durable Android phone, you should not miss the Aldi Nord offer in the coming week. From April 6, 2020, the discounter will sell the Xiaomi Redmi 8a for 99.99 euros. The currently cheapest price in Germany is 116 euros. At Aldi you get the SIM card from Aldi Talk free of charge with 10 Euro credit. All in all, a very inexpensive offer. But what do you really get for it? Basically an entry-level smartphone if you look at the specifications:

  • 6.22-inch display with HD + resolution
  • Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32 GB internal memory + microSD slot
  • Dual SIM function
  • 12 MP main camera
  • 8 MP front camera
  • USB-C connector
  • 5,000 mAh battery with 18 watt quick charge function
  • Android 9 Pie with MIUI 11

Interestingly, neither Aldi nor Xiaomi even the Android version, so we searched ourselves. An update to Android 10 would not be unrealistic, after all, the cell phone is relatively new. Otherwise, the large battery is particularly noticeable. This should keep the cell phone going for several days without any problems. Xiaomi also directly installs a USB-C port, which is not a matter of course in the price range. A 3.5 mm jack is also available so that you can connect your normal headphones.

So is it worth buying the Xiaomi Redmi 8a?

The Xiaomi Redmi 8a is a really good offer for the price of 99.99 euros. But you have to be aware that you are buying an entry-level smartphone here. The 2 GB RAM ensure that there are noticeable delays when multitasking, as many apps have to be reloaded over time. MIUI has already been significantly optimized in terms of performance. Those who have too high demands will be disappointed. But if you get involved with this 100 Euro mobile phone from Aldi, you will get a real bargain.
