Xiaomi is on the rise

In 2020, Xiaomi had already overtaken Apple in smartphone sales, ranking third. In the second quarter of 2021, it ranks second in the ranking of smartphone shipments revealed by Canalys. While Samsung is still number one, with a 19% market share, Xiaomi is closely behind him with its 17%. Next are Apple (14%), Oppo and Vivo (10% each).

Interestingly, Xiaomi is experiencing exponential growth in particular, with shipments having jumped 83% in the second quarter of 2021. As the firm specifies, the Beijing manufacturer remains however largely focused on the mass market. It therefore offers much lower prices than its two main competitors. In detail, its average selling price is 40% cheaper than that of Samsung (and 75% less expensive than the average price of Apple).

Therefore, “The main priority for Xiaomi this year will be to develop sales of its high-end devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra. But it will be an uphill battle, Oppo and Vivo sharing the same goal ”, specifies the cabinet. Especially since the latter are ready to make a lot of marketing expenses to distinguish themselves from Xiaomi.
