When Apple introduced the iPhone 12, the company also announced an important detail for the future of the sale of its devices, which is that the company’s new equipment would no longer include chargers in their packaging.
Apple justified this decision by pointing out that it would be something beneficial for the environment and would serve to reduce the pollution that affects our planet. However, the nuances of the company’s measure generated criticism and, beyond the concerns about the types of compatible chargers and other measures that would be helpful, other companies in the smartphone sector decided to step out of the company’s bet of the Apple.
For example, Xiaomi published content as a video where they indicate that they included everything in the Mi10TPro box and particularly highlight a charger.
But that attitude changed this week.
As collected The Verge, el CEO de Xiaomi, Lei Jun, confirmed that the company’s next phone, the Mi 11, will not come with a charger.
“In response to the call for environmental protection in the field of technology, the included charger was canceled from the packaging”, wrote the CEO of Xiaomi on the Chinese social network Weibo.
Both Apple and Xiaomi have indicated that excluding chargers from packaging for new phones can help the environment by putting fewer of these accessories on the market and reducing packaging for devices. However, it is still curious that this bet is beginning to become widespread after criticism of Apple and consumer complaints that, for example, suggest that these decisions do not go hand in hand with a reduction in prices.
However, Apple and Xiaomi would not be the only ones to follow that path and also I know rumored that Samsung wouldn’t plan on including a charger with the Galaxy S21 either.
But while that is not yet confirmed, from Xiaomi they assured that they plan to hold a press conference next Monday to explain in more detail why they removed the charger from the Mi 11 packaging.
