Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 Following Launch, Price Between Samsung and Motorola

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Xiaomi doesn’t want to miss introducing its newest foldable phone, Mix Fold 2. Xiaomi follows the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Flip4 series as well as the Motorola Razr 2022.

The founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, made his annual speech early and announced the Mix Fold 2 on Thursday 11 August 2022. There is no word yet on the availability of the phone outside of China but the device displayed is considered very impressive.

The Mix Fold 2 is by far the thinnest folding screen phone at just 5.4mm when folded and 11.2mm when folded, and that includes the rear camera housing.

For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is 6.3 mm thick when opened and 15.8 mm when folded.

The Mix Fold 2 weighs 262 grams and features Xiaomi’s smoother hinge technology. The hinge combines carbon fiber and alloy along its central structure which forms a foldable and compact screen design.

There’s a 6.56-inch AMOLED panel on the outside with a 21:9 aspect ratio that’s close to what you’d find on a regular smartphone, and that means typing shouldn’t feel too cramped. The refresh rate is still 120 Hz and the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Xiaomi has also added a 20 MP selfie camera stored in the punch hole.

The main panel, an 8-inch OLED LTPO2 has a resolution of 1914 x 2160 pixels. It’s an Eco2 OLED display panel that replaces the polarizer coating for better screen clarity while offering lower energy consumption. The main screen is HDR10+ and has Dolby Vision certification. Using Schott UTG glass, the peak brightness level is 1,300 nits.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from Qualcomm sits in the Mix Fold 2’s brain space, paired with 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

The Mix Fold 2 is also the second series to benefit from Xiaomi’s collaboration with Leica. The main camera sensor uses a 50 MP Sony IMX766 with OIS and optical technology from Leica. Like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the Mix Fold 2 gets the Leica Authentic and Vibrant photography style as well as the filters.

Along with the main camera, Mix Fold 2 places a 13 MP ultra-wide camera and an 8 MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom.

For the battery, Xiaomi gives it a 4,500 mAh spec with 67 W fast charging with cable. The operating systems are Android 12 and MIUI Fold 13.

The prices offered start from CNY 8,999 or Rp. 19.6 million for the 12/256 GB variant and become CNY 11,999 for those with 12 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. That price range is below the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and above Moto Razr 2022.

Pre-orders for the Mix Fold 2 phone have opened in China but distribution will only start on August 16.
