The Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi introduced the Mi 11 Ultra smartphone a few weeks ago and one of the flagship’s features is its IP68 waterproof construction. That feature has now been put to the test when a Weibo user unpacked the phone underwater.

The underwater unpacking of the device is a clear reflection of the success achieved by Xiaomi in producing IP68 rated phones capable of operating even in extreme conditions such as underwater. Both the Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro are the first set of smartphones with an IP68 water resistance rating for depths of up to 1.5 meters. Both devices are capable of staying underwater for up to 30 minutes.
The smartphone seems to have no problem starting up regularly, even if it is fully submerged in water. It also does not seem to present problems with taking pictures or recording videos, to underline the excellent work done by Xiaomi in this area. It is clear that what we see in the video is an extreme example of survival, completely disconnected from the classic paradigms of using any smartphone. In fact, although there are quite a few IP68 certified smartphones, it is always good to avoid prolonged contact of liquids with the device to avoid potentially fatal problems.
