Just when the megapixel war has come to an end, Xiaomi is breathing new life into it. It is rumored to be working on a 200MP flagship for 2022. It is likely that it will be part of the Mi Ultra series.
108 megapixels; that’s currently the highest camera resolution you can get on a cell phone. It was Samsung that first applied this sensor; the honor went to the Galaxy S20 Ultra. That was not without a struggle. The device was plagued with autofocus problems, something that has been solved in successors with a 108MP sensor by adding a laser autofocus. In the meantime, other manufacturers also started using the 108MP sensor, including Xiaomi.
And Xiaomi doesn’t want to stop there. According to a now-deleted blog post on Weibo, Xiaomi is planning a flagship with a 200MP camera sensor. This should be on the market in 2022 and seems to be equipped with a Snapdragon 888+ processor. So we are talking about a real flagship, possibly a successor to the Mi 11 Ultra.

Whether Xiaomi again uses a Samsung ISOCELL camera sensor is obvious. Earlier, it was rumored that Samsung wants to announce a phone with a 200MP camera in 2021. This rumor seems to be outdated now.
In addition to a high-resolution camera, Xiaomi often applies interesting innovations in its Ultra flagships. This is how the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra equipped with a second screen on the back. You can use this as a selfie mirror, but it also displays the time and notifications. Rarely do these kinds of novelties really add anything, but we can appreciate these kinds of promotions. It produces exciting and distinctive phones and we could use a little more of that.
