China’s Xiaomi has overtaken Apple as the world’s second-largest smartphone maker in the last quarter after a 83 percent jump in the brand’s shipments. This is shown by the preliminary calculations for the market performance of the analytical company Canalys.
If this is confirmed, the breakthrough for the Chinese company will be historic. The top 2 has traditionally been dominated by Samsung and Apple, and before the sanctions Huawei found a place there for a short time.
According to Canalys, Samsung has a market share of 19 percent for the second quarter of the year, Xiaomi – by 17 percent and Apple – by 14 percent, writes Bloomberg.
In the first four months of this year, the Chinese brand introduced two flagships. With the new Mi 11 Ultra, the company hinted at its ambition to enter the premium price range on the market.
“Compared to Samsung and Apple, its average sales price is about 40 and 75% lower,” said Ben Stanton of Canalys.
Expansion outside China is the company’s big driver of growth. Deliveries to Latin America jumped by 300% and those to Africa by 150%. The result for Western Europe is a growth of 30 percent.
