Xiaomi is not afraid to experiment in the world of smartphones, which is especially evident on a number of Mi Mix phones. The newly introduced nameless concept is not as futuristic as Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha, but even that will probably not get into regular sales. What are its main peculiarities?
Display bent over all sides
Xiaomi boasts that his latest concept is the world’s first smartphone to use a “waterfall” display on all four sides. Thanks to this, no frames are visible at all from the front side, the surface of the display flows smoothly into the sides, where it largely replaces the classic frame. The angle between the display and the sides is 88 °, so the display overflows almost to a right angle.
Xiaomi claims that this is the current state of the art that can be achieved with current displays, as it is very difficult to bend the glass four times (at temperatures around 800 ° C) and glue it 3D to the device. The resulting product then needs to be polished, using 4 different polishing tools working according to 10 different procedures. Mass production is probably not possible yet, because according to Xiaomi, there are thousands of attempts behind each such piece of glass.
No ports, no buttons
Due to the display on all sides, it was not possible to install mechanical buttons or any ports in the phone. The buttons are replaced by a touch screen on the side, charging is performed wirelessly. The fingerprint reader is hidden in the display, as well as a selfie camera and piezoelectric speaker integrated under its surface.
